Smoke Hole Cavern

So today we went to smoke hole caverns, and we also learned about the history of the cavern. How old is Smoke Hole Caverns? It formed over 200 million years ago from an underground stream, this extensive cavern is named “Smoke Hole” by early settlers after the smoke that often wafted out of the cave when the Seneca Indians used it for smoking meats. Because of the vastness of the cave and separated rooms, it was often used as shelter. It is said that settlers and immigrants back around the Civil War time made “moonshine” or corn whisky with the water from the caverns. And the reason why they produce the moonshine there is because there is only one entrance into the caverns which made it secure and with an ever-present supply of fresh water, it was a perfect place to produce moonshine. After we were done with that we were hungry. So we went to this little restaurant nearby and we had something to eat. It was not really like a regular restaurant it was a store and a tiny restaurant in the back and a very small kitchen and when I looked at the menu they had impossible burgers and I was surprised by that because you wouldn't think that place would have anything like that. We got our food, and we sat outside for a little bit but, there were a lot of bugs that kept swarming around our food. So we went back inside. I was hungry so I ate the burger very fast and it was very good. Then we headed back to the camper and relaxed for the rest of the night. We had to let everything soak in because tomorrow we are leaving to go back up to Michigan.
